This week, Kelly Rider, Department Director, appointed Amber Green as Deputy Director for King County Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS). Amber is a long-time employee at DCHS, and most recently served as Chief Administrative Officer. In March, Amber was named Acting Deputy Director, a role that hasn’t existed since 2021. Amber holds a wealth of expertise across the department, including emergency response, workforce and workplace strategies, and department level efforts on Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EIB).

In 2000, Amber joined DCHS in an administrative position and held a number of roles in her tenure with the department. For nearly 25 years, Amber has led teams across the department and managed cross-departmental work that has ensured the department’s success, especially during the rapid growth in recent years.

“Leaders across DCHS, other departments, and the Executive’s Office rely on Amber’s expertise leading and growing teams, navigating transition, and guiding work with an equitable and effective approach. Amber has a deft ability to solve complex problems with a focus on building trust and empowering teams to enable the department to best support employees, contracted partners, and community members who rely on DCHS services,” said Director Rider.

In this role, Amber will lead internal operations and oversee team leads for the DCHS Director’s Office. Amber will work in partnership with staff across the department, including division leadership, human resources, contracts and procurements, administrative services, and finance teams. She will be focused on daily operations and improving processes to advance initiatives managed by the department and maintain existing service delivery.

“As someone who has worked in public service for more than two decades, DCHS offers a place to make a direct impact for residents around the region. I am honored to work alongside a department filled with compassionate, caring, and creative people who work everyday to help people be happy, healthy, and connected to community,” said Green.

In her spare time, Amber enjoys traveling to new places, visiting beaches, gardening, trying new restaurants, and spending time with her spouse, Mark and her two children, Izabella and Maxwell.

Please join us in welcoming Amber to her new role!
