Across King County, communities know what they need: housing that is affordable, culturally grounded, and designed to keep people rooted in place. What’s often missing is early-stage support to turn those ideas into viable projects.
King County’s Equitable Development Initiative (EDI) is addressing that gap with a new, one-time Capacity Building Grants Request for Proposals (RFP). This opportunity is designed to help community-based organizations move affordable housing projects forward—from initial concept through predevelopment.
Centering community leadership
This funding prioritizes projects led by communities most impacted by displacement, structural racism, and long-standing inequities in investment. The goal is not only to build housing—but to ensure communities most affected are leading the work and shaping outcomes.
Flexible funding to build readiness
Capacity Building Grants are intended to support the foundational work required to advance a project, including:
- Organizational capacity
- Project planning and development
- Financial readiness
No prior experience with King County housing funding—or housing development—is required.
Eligibility
This opportunity is open to community-based organizations that:
- Are advancing an affordable housing project in King County with income-restricted units.
- Are in good standing to receive public funding and isn’t banned or restricted from getting federal, state, or county funds.
- Have no unresolved contracts with King County. If you’ve had contracts with King County before, any big financial or program issues need to be cleared up before you can be considered.
- Have limited experience developing housing (or have completed no more than two King County-funded housing projects).
