new funding opportunity is available from the Veterans, Seniors, and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) to support one or more entities to provide services that support reentry of formerly incarcerated persons in King County including, but not limited to, interim housing and systems navigation, family support services, employment resources, flexible financial assistance, and access to culturally responsive healing practices.

Individuals released from incarceration face social, economic, institutional, and community-based collateral consequences which include barriers to employment, accessing government benefits, receiving behavioral health services, difficulty accessing housing, food, clothes, bus passes, and other basic needs, and challenges to building community connections. Services funded through this RFP are intended to help mitigate the consequences of incarceration, to reduce the long-term negative effects of carceral system involvement on reentering individuals.

Funding overview

Organizations funded by the VSHSL will provide a suite of services that will support the reentry of formerly incarcerated persons in King County. These services will address a range of issues that will help people returning to community mitigate the tangible and intangible collateral consequences of incarceration and reduce recidivism. This funding opportunity will prioritize persons or communities who are disproportionately represented within the criminal legal system.

Funded programs will:

  • Directly address reentry issues in a context that is relevant, effective, and meaningful for program participants.
  • Provide information and services that are culturally and linguistically appropriate and accessible.
  • Develop and maintain connections, partnerships, and opportunities as needed to allow for appropriate referrals to other legal service providers or community resources that may benefit clients.
