A new funding opportunity is available from the Veterans, Seniors, and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) to fund entities to convene short-term community-building events and activities that provide social engagement opportunities for seniors and individuals from resilient communities in ways that meet their unique cultural needs.
The competitively selected projects will be community-led, reflect the populations they serve, and cultivate a sense of belonging for seniors and members of resilient communities who will otherwise be isolated. The short-term nature of these engagement projects allows for several small, time-limited projects to be procured rather than multi-year programs that rely on deep funding.
Based on the growing scientific understanding of the risks of isolation and on the near universality of social isolation as a concern brought up during more than 70 VSHSL community engagement events, this program is designed to connect isolated individuals and their families to King County’s broader community, and to see those social connections sustain themselves into the future. The program strives to reduce participants’ feelings of isolation by providing opportunities for them and their families to socialize, and to address the inequities they may face while creatively building community.
Funding overview
Applicants must present a compelling proposal for providing a short-term, time-limited service provision; clearly describe strategies for engaging seniors or resilient community members; explain their approach to conducting effective outreach and/or engagement; and demonstrate a clear understanding of, and authentic commitment to, serving these populations.
