The Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) is currently recruiting members to fill seven positions on the Health Through Housing (HTH) Advisory Committee. The deadline to submit a nomination is March 15, 2025. Check out the nomination form here

What is the HTH Advisory Committee?
The Advisory Committee helps guide current and future iterations of the HTH initiative. The committee consists of 12-16 members representing diverse geographic regions and communities across King County, and advises the Executive’s Office and the King County Council on matters impacting the HTH initiative, including:

  • Advising on current and future implementation;
  • Reviewing performance data to assess initiative impact; and
  • Reporting annually to King County Council and the community at large on expenditures, accomplishments, and effectiveness of the initiative.

The Health Through Housing Advisory Committee offers a meaningful way for community members to support efforts to house their neighbors. Avon Curtis, Chair of the HTH Advisory Committee, shared the following about her experience on the committee: “When people have access to safe, stable housing with a strong healthcare component, they are better positioned to thrive, rather than just survive. That’s why I take this work seriously. We’re not just providing shelter; we’re ensuring that people have the supportive services they need to maintain their health, rebuild their lives, and move forward. I’m honored to be part of this effort, and I believe that by prioritizing health through housing, we are giving people the dignity and quality of life they truly deserve.”

Committee members must commit to consistent meeting attendance, detailed review of technical documents like reports and implementation plans, and active participation in a subcommittee or working group.

Committee members will be appointed for a term of four years and are expected to attend in person meetings on a quarterly basis.

Stipends will be available for community members selected to participate in the Advisory Committee in a personal capacity.

Who is eligible to be nominated?
This regional initiative aims to recruit an Advisory Committee reflective of the diversity of King County, with an emphasis on communities hardest hit by homelessness. DCHS welcomes nominations (including self-nominations) of trusted community members who are passionate about expanding access to equitable and affordable housing in our region and who hold any of the following identities and/or experiences:

  • Represent geographic regions across King County, including rural and urban areas and north, east, south, and central regions of King County.
  • Represent racial-ethnic, gender identity, or experiential communities* that are disproportionately experiencing homelessness in King County, including people whose experiences intersect the behavioral health or criminal legal systems.
  • Lived experience of homelessness or have lived in a HTH building.
  • Have a track record of support and allyship for equitable, affordable, and accessible housing.

How do I nominate someone?
Anyone can nominate themselves and/or individuals for consideration by completing the nomination form. Nominations will be accepted through end of day on March 15, 2025. Nominations submitted after this date will be placed on reserve to fill any future member vacancies. Nomination form can be found here.

Nominees who advance to the next round of the selection process will be asked to complete an official member application and may be interviewed by the HTH review panel. Once members have been selected, the King County Executive will formally appoint those individuals to the HTH Advisory Committee.
