October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month—a vital time when advocates, survivors, allies, and communities unite to raise awareness, share resources, and honor those affected. It is a dedicated space to hold one another up, mourn lives lost, and drive our shared work toward a violence-free future.

The devastating reality of domestic violence remains a pressing crisis across King County and nationwide, touching individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The statistics underscore this urgency. According to reported data: one in three women and one in four men experience intimate partner violence, one in three teens reports abuse in a dating relationship, and millions of children witness domestic violence in their homes each year.

Here in King County, the Veterans, Seniors, and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) is committed to turning the tide. By funding critical local organizations, the VSHSL helps ensure that survivors have access to comprehensive, life-saving support—including 24/7 helplines, behavioral health care, harm reduction, legal advocacy, and emergency resources.
